Hello, Crafters.
Happy Mother’s Day to all Mothers out there. I didn’t realise there are other countries that celebrate Mother’s Day at the time as the UK. They are Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man and Nigeria! The reason our date varies from year to year is because the UK date of this celebration is rooted in the Christian observance of Mothering Sunday. This takes place on the fourth Sunday in the festival of Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday. This observance originated in the Middle Ages, when children who had left their families to work in domestic service were allowed to go to their home – or “mother” – church. That, in a nutshell, is why our Mother’s Day is different from most other countries!
Today’s video was a request inspired by a video someone had seen which brought back some happy memories for me. I remember first seeing this style of card when I was learning cardmaking via YouTube. In order to keep lots of the videos I saw that had been made by certain US Stampin’ Up! demonstrators I set up a playlist under each of their names. When I saw this card, I remembered it had been made by one of two demos and I was right – it was Linda Bauwin, who is still a demonstrator!
It was easy to find her video which she had published on 28th July 2015! Cardmaking is one of those things where new ideas are popping up all the time but designs never die! When you see today’s video I’m sure you will agree! Linda called her video Creative Butterfly Fold Card; please check it out – this is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpapElExrZ8&t=9s
My first card was the Poppy Parade card and I used two designs from the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper (DSP) (157670). This is the same design I used for my video card except with a change of colour and DSP. This style of card can be made using any symmetrical shape like butterflies, hearts, stars, etc. I made a regular sized card using our heart punches from the Heart Punch Pack of two punches (151292); unfortunately the co-ordinating stamp set had retired! I don’t normally do this but I retrieved the stamp set – called Heartfelt – and used it to create the Highland Heather card shown further down.
All the products I used for my Soft Succulent video card are listed below my video and also on here below my signature. During the video I demonstrated how I paint my butterflies by painting half of one which I showed again later during the video so watchers could see how the colours gradually blended together! Although I had added the two small butterflies to the greeting panel inside the card, I hadn’t added any to the front by the time I had finished the video. As you can see on the photographs I did go back after the video just to finish it off!
The products I used for the heart card, apart from the stamp set and matching punches I’ve already mentioned, also includes the sentiment HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MY LOVE which is from the current Love & Happiness Stamp Set(157633). There is a matching set of dies called Bouquet of Love Dies as well as a hybrid Embossing folder by the same name – the bundle is called Love & Happiness Bundle (157642). The DSP is called Sweet Talk (157616).
I used the retired Dog Punch for the small hearts, and the gems are the Pastel Pearls (154571) and on the small hearts I have place some Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels (158130). The middle layers and the small hearts are Gorgeous Grape Cardstock (CS) (147011) and the hearts have been stamped with Highland Heather Ink. (147103 Refill 147167).
For the red card I used Poppy Parade CS (121694) for the card base and Petal Pink CS (147009) for the small butterflies. The Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels (158130) are the same as above and the Matte Black Dots (154284) are still a current product; I wasn’t sure whether they were or not when I used the during the video!
To paint the butterflies for this card I used my Stampin’ Write Markers a s follows: Poppy Parade – Brights Assortment (147157) as well as Calypso Coral and Petal Pink – Subtles Assortment (147156). The only butterfly I used my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen (141897) on is the butterfly on the front of both cards. I used my Stamparatus (148187) for stamping both the sentiment on the front of both cards WISHING YOU THE HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS as well as the butterflies.
The ink I used for both is Tuxedo Black Memento Ink (132708 Refill 133456). Hopefully I have explained all the products I’ve used; if I have forgotten something, please ask. I hope you have a very blessed Sunday and if you’re a Mum, I hope you get treated. Hubby is taking me out for lunch at a restaurant next to Epsom Race Course. If the weather continues to be sunny and warm, we’ll probably go for a walk after to help our food to go down. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx
