Hello, Crafters.
I’m very pleased with today’s card which was inspired by a video I saw showing a shutter card inside a regular card base. When I decided to have a go at making it I changed the measurements to make 5¾” x 5¾” card. This meant changing all the measurements which was a bit of a challenge but I persevered! As I was inserting the shutter part, I had a lightbulb moment and thought about making it as a bookbinding card as well!
The first completed card didn’t work properly because the middle section kept getting caught when the card was being opened. I decided the problem must be to do with the size of the shutter unit. I felt the problem had to be with the individual sections of the shutter unit were too long for their height! I went back to the drawing board and changed my measurements. I was right about the cause of the problem but I’m not sure my reasoning was right!
As you can imagine, re-calculating all the measurements wasn’t a five minute job because I had to change the sizes of all the layers as well. Again, I persevered and I’m so pleased I did! I’m very happy with the result and there isn’t any aspect I would change! It is a thick card and, although it isn’t an issue with me, I do wonder if some crafters would like to have some kind of closure to the card.
I’m not sure a belly band would be a good idea as it would probably undo the bow eventually depending on how many times it’s slid off and on. Apart from that I don’t have any suggestions what would work, do you? I have used the same Designer Series Paper for the last three weeks in my videos! Next week I will make sure that I use something different but it does go to show what a fabulous pack of Designer Series Paper the Flowering Fields is!
The Rich Razzleberry card is the video card and I did add some bling after I had finished the video. First I added three Pastel Pearls on the main image on the front of the card. I also painted four Basic Pearl Jewels with my retired Dark Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Blend and then added them to the back of the die-cut Rich Razzleberry butterfly which is also on the main image on the front of the card.
Inside the shutter unit I added three Brushed Brass Butterflies. Normally I don’t adhere bling inside my cards but these butterflies are very thin and very flat. I really don’t think they will cause any damage to the card when it goes through the mail. When I was designing the layouts of the different Designer Series Papers I wanted to use for the two cards, I found the 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper Packs really came into there own!
That’s it from me today, I hope you have a very blessed Sunday and I look forward to being back again soon. In the meantime take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx
