Hello, Crafters.
Two-step stamping is one of my favourite cardmaking techniques and I certainly had a lot of enjoyment creating today’s card! At the beginning of last Sunday’s video, no. 628 Making Tulips & Diamond Flip Fold card, I started by explaining what pieces of cardstock you would need to make the card and the sizes. I said I had chosen to use one of my least favourite colours – Mango Melody – because it went so well with the design I had chosen from the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper (DSP). As I was making the video card, I started to really like Mango Melody even though I don’t like orange so I decided to use it again and yes, I’m still really getting to like it!! Never say never!!
The size of the top layer is 5¼” x 3⅝” (9.3cm x 13.4cm) US 3¾” x 5”. Inside the card, I used another piece of Mango Melody Cardstock (CS) the same size as this but as a middle layer and then a top layer of Basic White CS that measured 3½” x 5⅛” (9cm x 13.1cm) US 3⅝” x 4⅞”. I made my card base using Basic White CS as a landscape card with the fold on the short side. Before I adhered the two layers inside the card, I stamped a flower image, the same as on the front of the card but without the jug, in the bottom right hand corner. The stamp with the flowers has six flowers and I ended up with a white space at the bottom so I inked the outermost flower on that stamp and stamped it to fill the gap! It worked brilliantly – I don’t think you’d know what I had done if I hadn’t pointed it out! 😀
To create my image panel, I die-cut a stitched shape from the Hippo & Friends Dies. I practiced on some scrap paper working out how to stamp the image so the flowers were in the jug. Using a Post It Note I created a mask for the flowers and did a test image and die-cut it using a die from the matching Window Flower Box Dies. I stamped the flowers, put the mask on and stamped the jug. It worked really well but there was a bit too much white around the leaves that were hanging down on the left-hand side. I trimmed a narrow piece off the Post It Note by the inside edge of the mask and did another test image. The result the second time was much better!
I started my image panel by stamping the shelf using Crumb Cake Ink. Next I used Granny Apple Green Ink and stamped the green leaves high enough so there was room to stamp the jug underneath. After I had stamped the Mango Melody flowers in place, I put the mask on the stamped image and stamped the jug using Terracotta Tile Ink. Next I stamped the small flower pot to the left of the jug using the same colour ink but stamped off once. I stamped the leaves using Pear Pizzazz Ink. Finally, I added the THANK YOU sentiment from the stamp set using Crumb Cake Ink.
I added two Brushed Metallic Adhesive-Backed dots, one at each end, of the shelf. I wanted to add a Bumblebee Trinket but I decided to wait until I’d put the front of my card together. Before adhering the top Mango Melody CS top layer to my card, I embossed it using the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder; just to give it some dimension. Next I decided to tie a piece of the ¼” Bumblebee Gingham Ribbon around it and finish with a bow at the front on the right-hand side. When I was happy with the bow, I adhered the top layer in position and then added the image panel using Dimensionals. Now I could see the best place to position my Bumblebee Trinket and adhered it in place!
