Hello, Crafters.
Finally! The day has arrived! Today I’m off shopping for the day with my daughter Vicki and granddaughter Molly! I’m so excited, even though I don’t particularly like shopping anymore but to spend the day with just the three of us – bliss! I will get so much pleasure watching Molly shopping until she drops! Today I’m sharing four out of the five projects we were able to create at last weekend’s Creativity Now event! This was a first for Stampin’ Up! and is a non-business event, so it’s great for all the many hobbyist demos we have!
Overall the event was a huge success with just one main complaint which when sorted out, will make this a hugely successful event. The problem? We were assured we’d be allowed to craft along with the presenters but they all went way too fast for that! The third project was a gift bag using some Splendid Day Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP). This is the point I gave up because I ruined two 12″ x 12″ sheets of the DSP by cutting the wrong corner off! There’s a lot of chat on Facebook about how fast the demonstrations were. There has also been a huge amount of suggestions put forward to SU by demos to help slow the presentations. I think it will be possible for SU to put one or two ideas in place and make this event amazing! The designs of the projects were really good despite not having my extra layer!
We were using products from the Splendid Day Suite which will be in the new Christmas Catalogue. The second card we made has the Basic White Cardstock (CS) and has a layer of Calypso Coral CS that has been embossed using the Brick and Mortar 3D Embossing Folder. We stamped one set of leaves onto a piece of Petal Pink CS and a different set of leaves on a piece of Soft Sea Foam CS. As well as die-cutting the two stamped images, we also die-cut a selection of Basic White leaves. Before adhering them to the Calypso Coral CS layer, we wrapped a piece of the beautifully soft Soft Sea Foam Binding Ribbon round the layer and adhered it at the back. After adhering the leaves in position using Tombow, we die-cut the semi-circle and adhered it over the stems using Dimensionals.
We stamped the SENDING HUGS sentiment using Calypso Coral Ink and cut around the outline. I adhered mine in the bottom right-hand corner using Dimensionals. My final touch was to add a Soft Sea Foam ribbon bow to the semi-circle. If you see these same cards from other demonstrators you will probably notice some differences as we all tend to add our own spin to them!
The first card we made is the Soft Sea Foam MUCH LOVE card. I love the way the background was created for this card! We had a piece of Basic White CS and we started with the Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend and gently wiped the brush tip from side to side until we had covered the first quarter. We changed to Dark Pool Party and repeated the process until about halfway down. Then we changed to Dark Fresh Freesia and then Light Fresh Freesia until we had covered it all.
Then we had to stamp a Pool Party bumblebee on the top half of the layer and then a Fresh Freesia bumblebee on the bottom half making sure we left space for the sentiment. We die-cut two Soft Sea Foam leaves and stamped the sentiment. We were supposed to offset the top layer and the foil layer but I layered my evenly. We flagged the ends of the sentiment fixed a piece of ribbon at the back and adhered in place using Dimensionals. Before I adhered my layers on my card front, I stamped the bumblebee all over, tone on tone.
The third card is the Petal Pink card which I did yesterday evening! The four semi-circles should have been offset and overlapping and the Basic White layer should have had its edges roughed up using a pair of scissors or a finger nail. This is not a look I like so I embossed mine using the Gingham Embossing Folder. I also chose THANK YOU from the Heron Habitat Stamp Set for my sentiment. These three card designs were the best of the projects in my opinion.
The fourth card uses the negatives from the semi-circles used for card number three. Even though I made this yesterday evening, I wasn’t able to come up with a design I really like. My design is close to the original but not quite the same! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these projects. Do check out the Splendid Day Suite when you receive a copy of the new catalogue – it’s a great set! I have to dash! I’m being picked up for our shopping trip at 9.30am!! I look forward to being back with you at the weekend. In the meantime take care, stay safe and happy crafting!

Thank you for sharing. I do like this suite. Have a wonderful day with your family.
Many thanks, Diana. It really is a super suite! Yes, we had a ball! 💖 xx
Beautiful cards, Jan. I love how you changed them up. I totally agree about the Creativity Now event. There was no way we could stamp along without knowing ahead of time what dies we would be using and techniques, e.g. heat embossing. I have to watch from a room other than my craft room so I knew it would be impossible for me anyway. Hopefully, if they do an event again, they’ll rethink it.
Many thanks, Karen. It’s such a shame you have to watch from another room!! I think if SU can sort out the speed of the presentations, I think they have a great new event on their hands! xx
