Hello, Crafters.
I keep changing my mind about the name for today’s video!! It’s either sliding doors or sliding windows – I think I’ve settled on doors because you can see through windows! LOL!! Whatever the name, this is a fun card and although it’s difficult to photograph, the images/sentiments are hidden and become visible as the card is opened!
In the video, I demonstrate how to work out where to position the images/sentiments that need to be start off as hidden! This is my spin on a card I saw demonstrated by Craft Space. My spin includes adding a back layer to cover up the mechanism of the card. The designer’s idea was that the doors would move when the card is opened but I found this needed the card to be opened in a particular way. This meant explaining to the recipient, or if mailed, leaving the recipient on their own!
Although, for me, this aspect of the card didn’t work, it’s still a fun card if the images/sentiments are made to appear from behind the doors as the card is opened. I made four of these cards altogether including a masculine card. Unfortunately I don’t like using toppers but I didn’t buy the masculine stamp set that co-ordinated with the He’s the Man Designer Series Paper (DSP), so I had to go with the toppers that came with the DSP! The stamp set is called He’s All That.
I’m very pleased with my Sweet Sorbet prototype card which has been decorated with the beautiful Tea Boutique DSP. I love the two images I’ve used i.e. the ladybird and the hedgehog but they are too big for this size card. I’m sure they would look brilliant on a 7″ x 5″ card! I need to finish off this card be adding a sentiment. Both the stamp sets I used for this card have been carried forward into the new annual catalogue!
The sentiment HAPPY FATHER’S DAY was created using the retired dies called Words Wishes which I decided to buy just before the last annual catalogue retired! Although I won’t need Thanksgiving nor Halloween, I’ll always have a sentiment ready for the main events in the UK. I die cut the three words in Early Espresso Cardstock (CS) as well as Very Vanilla CS. I offset them slightly when I adhered the two layers together which made the sentiment really pop!
While I was videoing today’s card, I commented that the image for the front of the card looked very bland. Before I photographed the card, I used some Saddle Brown Stazon Ink and stamped some birds from the Heron Heritage Stamp Set fill some of the space so the mouse now looks as if he is flying in the sky…..up. up and away! It would have been better if I had planned this so I could have put the mouse at an angle which would have made him look more as if he was really up in the sky!!
The large HAPPY BIRTHDAY stamp from the Slim Sayings Stamp Set has been cut into two pieces to give me extra mileage. When I do this I make one cut so I can put both pieces back together again on a stamp block easily. Then I can stamp it as one complete sentiment without any sign that the stamp has been cut into two parts! I hope you enjoy today’s fun card video.
I wish you all a very blessed Sunday and I look forward to be back with you soo. In the mean time, take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx

I was very disappointed with this card measured everything out but the card wouldn’t lie flat it kept getting stuck at the back don’t know what I’ve done wrong
Think I will have to try again with scrap paper 🥲
I love watching you too and doing your cards x
Hi, Angela. I’m sorry you didn’t get a good result. Without seeing your card it’s very difficult to know what went wrong. I wonder if some Tombow leaked from one of strips or if your strips were too short? I could be wrong but I’m sure the problem must be related to either of these areas. I hope you are able to work out what wasn’t quite right and can get it right on your second attempt. It’s an excellent idea to test it on scrap paper! This is what I use when I’m working out US measurements. xx
