Hello, Crafters.
Today’s video features a fabulous card that was designed by my friend and ex-Stampin’ Up! demonstrator Amanda Charlesworth also known as Scrimpingmommy. She named her card a Triple Floating Diamond card. This is the link to Amanda’s video if you would like to check it out. This is an exceedingly easy card to make and looks stunning sitting on a shelf.
The are a few different ways this card can be positioned on the shelf. My favourite way is to have the centre diamond in front of the other two diamonds so they are slightly behind the middle one. The finished card measures 5¾” x 5¾” (14.6cm x 14.6cm) US 5½” x 5½”. I would use a 6″ x 6″ (15.3cm x 15.3cm) envelope which is larger than the actual card size but allows room for the thickness of this card. The A4 card weighs (without an envelope) 52g.
I love the images in the Wonderful World Stamp Set because they are so easy to “paint” using our Stampin’ Write Marker Pens. For the Melon Mambo and Orchid Oasis cards I used the Pear Pizzazz marker pen for the greenery. If you’re not sure how to do this technique, I give a brief demonstration in this video but if you’d like a more detailed demonstration with close up shots, please check out last week’s video i.e. no 648: 3 Cards In 1 and fast forward to 6:30 minutes.
To create my prototype card, I fussy cut three flowers from one of the designs from the DSP pack. I had originally planned to use more fussy cut flowers for my “before video” card as well as my video card and spent some quiet time the night before cutting out six more flowers. Why did I change my mind? I think it was because I had used a set of retired Oval Dies for the Gold Foil layers I’d adhered the fussy cut flowers to but couldn’t offer a suitable alternative idea! I wish we still had large layering dies!
The gold foils spotted paper I used on my prototype card is from the Silver & Gold Specialty 6″ x 6″ Paper which is another gift available during Sale-a-bration which ends on 31st August 2022, while stocks last. All the other DSP I used on the three cards are all from Wonderful World DSP. I need to add a sentiment to my first card and will probably use a simple one straight line HAPPY BIRTHDAY that I can adhere over the lower stem on the centre white flower.
If I was making this card as part of my hobby i.e. not as a video or a blog post and therefore no time constraints, I would have looked into adding some more decoration to the inner panels, e.g. bumblebees, or butterflies. This is one of the reasons I encourage crafters to join my Facebook group. I love seeing the ideas other crafters come up with!
As usual, I would write my greeting on the back of this card so it’s well out of sight! When I add embellishments to my cards, I never add anything that has dimension to the inside. This is where I think the Brass Brushed Butterflies really come into their own. They are so thin and flat, I’m more than happy to put them inside my cards.
I hope you like this week’s card as much as I do! Many thanks for the inspiration Amanda! That’s it for today. I wish you a very blessed Sunday and look forward to being back again soon.
Take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx
